Kawai K4 (1989-1990)
Serial number 285079. ROM version 1.3. Made in Japan.
This legendary digital synthesizer from 1989 is often described as "warm and fuzzy". It has a lo-fi air that is loved by many, while others think it just sounds bad. If you know, you know.
K4 is the 61-key synthesizer with aftertouch and built-in effects, while the K4r is the rackmount version, with eight individual outputs but no effects.
The Kawai K4 in our collection was acquired in 2006 from Austria.
Kawai released a dozen factory sound banks which are still available from their download site. Additionally there are sound banks available from Kid Nepro, Bitley, LFO.store, and others.
The Kawai K4 can be sampled by GetMySound. Send in your patches!
If you are a sound designer making patches for this synth, and you are not on the list above, please contact us with more information if you want to be added.
Yamaha TG77 (1990)
Serial number HP01113. Made in Japan by Yamaha Corporation.
Yamaha kept on developing FM synthesis all through the 1980s, and expanded it with AFM (Advanced FM) and RCM (Real-Time Convolution and Modulation, combining AWM2 with AFM) in the SY77 workstation and its rackmount version, the TG77. This resulted in one of the best FM synthesizers of all time. Yamaha modestly calls the TG77 a "Tone Generator".
The Yamaha TG77 in our collection was acquired from Germany in 2020.
There are fresh sounds for the SY77 and TG77 available from Electric Himalaya, MIDERA, Wise Sound, LFO.store, and others.
The Yamaha TG77 can be sampled by GetMySound. Send in your patches!
